Senior Volunteer Programs

The General Funds in pages 1429-1431 are used to help provide the required match for these three programs needed to access over $1.7m in federal funds from the Corporation for National and Community Services.  These are invaluable programs for the safety net for children, elders, and community nonprofits.  Over 4,000 volunteers participate throughout the state and their contribution measured in dollars is conservatively estimated at $5.5m for 2008.

It would be a great loss and irrational to risk the loss of the federal funds and the great benefit of these programs to both communities and seniors by failing to appropriate slightly over $300,000 per year.

Requested Action

Add to the Governor’s Budget for these three programs $328,625 for FY 2010 and $339,625 for FY 2011 allocated per the chart above.  This will fund each program at the Maintenance levels requested by BEAS.
